چکیده

Stock size and status of red mullet Mullus barbatus were assessed via virtual population analysis yield prediction using on-board observed length-frequency catch data from the north-eastern Mediterranean Sea. The von Bertalanffy growth parameters obtained L∞ = 35.4 cm, k 0.42, t0 0.64, tanc 0.59 Φ′ 2.72. Trawl-type selectivity ogive was calculated as 1.57 years corresponding to 17.1 cm TL. M. indicated that minimum maximum fishing mortalities 0.01 yr–1 11.1 for mid-length groups 8.5 21.5 respectively. estimated lowest mean biomass 3.541 t 31 at length 8.5, highest 13.880 22.5 46.086 Biological reference points FMSY 5.85, F0.5 2.3, EMSY 0.89, E0.5 0.77. values current mortality coefficient (Fcur) exploitation rate (Ecur) 5.3 0.89 present biological indicate stock in investigated area is overexploited needs urgent management considerations.

Mercury Accumulation and Speciation in Red Mullet (mullus Barbatus) and Annular Sea Bream (diplodus Annularis) from Izmir Bay (eastern Aegean)

Total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) concentrations were investigated in two different species from the Izmir Bay. The levels of THg and MeHg in fish tissue, ranging from 4.4 to 221.4 μg THg kg and 3.8-194.8 μg MeHg kg (wet wt.), varied according to sampling point and season. The results indicate that none of the fish analysed was ≥ 0.500 μg g for THg and ≥ 0.300 μg g for MeHg and nor d...

Seasonal Variations of the Activity of Antioxidant Defense Enzymes in the Red Mullet (Mullus barbatus l.) from the Adriatic Sea

This study investigated seasonal variations of antioxidant defense enzyme activities: total, manganese, copper zinc containing superoxide dismutase (Tot SOD, Mn SOD, CuZn SOD), catalase (CAT), glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px), glutathione reductase (GR) and biotransformation phase II enzyme glutathione-S-transferase (GST) activity in the liver and white muscle of red mullet (Mullus barbatus). Th...

Aggregation dynamics and foraging behaviour of striped red mullet Mullus surmuletus in the western Mediterranean Sea.

Habitat-related heterogeneity of striped red mullet Mullus surmuletus heterospecific foraging assemblages was examined off the coast of Spain. Video-based focal-follows conducted on 122 M. surmuletus assemblages (446 total individuals) revealed an array of attendant species (n = 7) with composition linked to benthic habitat complexity; bare sandy substrata were characterized by homospecific gro...

A Biomonitoring Study: Heavy Metals in Monodonta turbinata (Mollusca: Gastropoda) From Iskenderun Bay, North-Eastern Mediterranean

Metal (Fe, Zn, Cd, Cu, Co, Ni, Al, Mn, Pb and Cr) levels were investigated in the muscle tissue of Monodonta turbinata from seven different stations in Iskenderun Bay. Accumulations of all elements were effected from seasonal changes in all stations. The highest levels of Zn (101.42 g/g), Cd (9.01 g/g), Cu (334.47 g/g) and Pb (90.8 g/g) were found in the station Çevlik. However, the highest...

An investigation on age, growth and biological characteristics of red mullet (Mullus barbatus ponticus, Essipov, 1927) in the Eastern Black Sea

This study was carried out during May 2010 – April 2011 in order to determine various biological properties of red mullet occurring in the Eastern Black Sea region. The average length and weight of 1435 specimens were determined as 13.13 cm and 23.14 g, respectively. Weight-length relationship was determined as W = 0.0088 L3.0338. The age distribution of this population ranged between I and VII...
